What I do
When you hire me to proofread, I will focus on the following main points:
-
Correcting grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors
-
Tweaking sentences to ensure that they flow smoothly
-
Adapting vocabulary to suit the document type and purpose
-
Removing repetition and editing for concision
-
Fixing inconsistencies, including in capitalisation and punctuation
-
Highlighting unclear sentences and suggesting corrections
-
Where applicable, checking that citations and references are clear and correct

In short, proofreading is about making sure you can communicate your meaning as clearly and effectively as possible. This makes it great for putting a final polish on your work.

I am proficient in the use of British Standards Institution (BSI) marks. However, I can mark up errors in Word documents using Track Changes, or in PDF documents using Comments. I am comfortable working on screen or on paper, and can proofread blind or against copy.
